Though we rarely acknowledge it, paper is an amazing raw material for works of art. Not only does it provide a surface for people to draw on, it is amazingly versatile to be used for many other art forms. If you want this statement to have credibility, all you need to do is look at oriental paper lanterns and you will know what we mean. In this article, we are going to look at one such art that requires a lot of skills and with results so gorgeous that you will be hankering to gain those skills. Yes, we are talking about paper cut art which is delicate and incredibly detailed, what is more, it requires some amount of skill too. It is not going to be like DIY paper snowflakes decoration ideas where you can get the hang of it after a bit of practice. It is going to be definitely harder to master than attractive ornaments from paper and would require a good amount of patience, practice, skill and an eye for detail.
DETAILED PAPER CUTTING ART WORKS WHICH NEED GOOD SKILLS
The one kind of art that we can probably compare and have it come remotely close to is paper cut out art – using paper to create sculpture like effect, but this is on a more minute level. To start with, we suggest that you get to grips with the basics of what you will need in terms of the supplies and then move on to simple projects though the temptation to go for the more intricate projects may be difficult to resist.
The supplies you will require is a contrasting paper on which you will place your paper cut art, scalpel (yes, a scalpel and not a scissor as you may assume), glue and other adhesive supplies. You can also throw in few extra supplies like a ruler and other means to create the basic shape. Do ensure that you get a scalpel you are comfortable holding and which will move the way you want it to while working on the paper cut project that you will be doing. We would also suggest that you add a few extra blades to your supplies to ensure that you do not have to discontinue your project due to the lack of proper implements.
For the card on which you will be cutting out the art, you have to remember that thicker paper is more forgiving in terms of the mistakes that may happen but it is also a tad more difficult to cut into making your cuts look larger than you intend them to be. Thinner paper while being easier to cut, may not be as forgiving and can also become spoiled and tear away if handled less than delicately.
Now that you know that the supplies are pretty basic and simple, there is nothing else to do but get started on the paper cut art project you want to work on. We suggest that you look for a simple but interesting design to start with and have it printed to ease the process. Of course, if you are a good at drawing, then you can draw the art on to the paper after which you can start cutting it out. Do keep a small delicate but sharp scissors handy because you may find that these come in handy when you are stuck in a particularly complicated bit.
We suggest that you check out the design possibilities from the images we have given here along with our article. Tempting though it may be, we caution you to start simple before moving on to complicate projects. Unlike other paper based projects, this one comes down to your skills and very few supplies so do take care to ensure that the integrity of your work is not compromised. For instance, white paper can get smudged easily and you cannot do this kind of work while wearing gloves so that best thing to do would be to wash and dry your hands before starting. Are you excited to start? Get going then.
